short film, Paris, 2011

——

Water and its sensory qualities is a medium I explored with my peers in the short movie galatea. Based on the transposition of Pygmalion’s myth, a basin of milky water is used as a screen for the projection of the desires and fantasies of the creator. The film explores the metamorphosis of inanimate matter into life, and Galatea’s birth is the highlight of the narration.  Her creation occurs in Pygmalion’s minimalist laboratory, where he collects various material and textures reminding him of a woman skin. In a moment of frenetic insanity he throws them into a pool of milky water, which will bring his fantasy to life. As film director I was particularly sensitive to the choice of frames and lighting and the direction of the actors, emphasizing the interaction between body and movement.
