This season, the Spaceless Gallery debuts at The Curator Lab at the iconic 529 Arts in Chelsea. On view from September 11 through October 30, 2025, this white-cube presentation marks a new chapter for the nomadic gallery, known for presenting contemporary artists across Europe and the United States. The presentation brings together a selection of works from the gallery’s international roster of artists, carrying forward the Spaceless Gallery’s ethos of curating art in conversation with distinct spaces and discerning audiences. The presentation showcases works from Aleksandra Szewczuk, aurèce vettier, Grant Levy Lucero, Gwen Hardie, Hugh Findletar, Lara Porzak, Oda, Olga Sabko, and Sophie Kitching. By situating its New York presence within the heart of Chelsea’s art district, the gallery deepens its commitment to cultivating dialogues between art and design where works are experienced in harmony with space.
Sophie Kitching’s ‘Reversed’ series were painted on the back of unprimed, unstretched canvases on the floor of her Bleecker Street studio in 2016. The paint seeping through the raw cotton, the staining on the rear of the surfaces, which happened by accident, evoked a weather forecast and became the focal point of this body of work, and 3 years after making them, she stretched them in reverse to reveal the hidden side of the work.

The ‘Payne’ monochromes draw inspiration from a tone of grey invented by the watercolor artist William Payne at the end of the 18th century to depict shadows with more delicacy. Layered Payne’s grey oil pastel soaked in turpentine on the primed canvas is imprinted with successive folds of plastic, composing abstract landscapes of light and shadow. These paintings have a photographic feel as they are a direct impression of inorganic matter on a wet painted surface, evoking a shroud, a sky, a garden…

Using overlaid sheets of corrugated plastic and two-way mirror, ‘Untitled (In motion) I & II’ are Sophie Kitching’s most recent polycarbonate paintings. Each layer holds its own series of gestures, offering an interplay of light and space, depth and movement, color and reflection. Lending a new perspective on landscape through the architectural qualities of the medium itself, the abstracted patterns are suspended from within, revealing the ephemeral animation of the paintings as they come in motion with the wake of someone passing.

The Spaceless Gallery fosters meaningful connections by bringing contemporary art into the unique environments we curate. Founded in Paris and operating between Europe and the United States, we represent a roster of talented international artists across all mediums. Specializing in art in distinct contexts, we help collectors build their collections and interior designers elevate their projects, creating harmonious spaces where art and design seamlessly blend. We craft immersive experiences in private homes and high-end locations. Recent collaborations include exhibitions at Bergdorf Goodman, the Invisible Collection, Holly Hunt, and installations with designers like Chloé Nègre and Gilles & Boissier. Guided by a nomadic philosophy, we envision art without borders — spacelessly.
